Louisiana Homes & Gardens Design Awards 2008: Room Design: Bar, Kitchen and Dining

Room Design – Kitchen

Bella Cucina

The Noel kitchen is a beautiful gourmet kitchen with classic European styling. Two custom-made iron chandeliers hang above dual islands in a unique tray ceiling. The larger island serves not only as seating for the family, but also as a buffet for entertaining. The smaller island serves as a prep station with a copper bar sink, a handmade butcher’s block, and hidden refrigeration drawers to keep produce close at hand. To the left of the range is a wine cellar behind hand-made iron gates. The backsplash is beveled marble while the counter tops are a mix of Delicatus and honed Absolute Black granite. Custom cabinetry, a limestone hood, and professional appliances by Thermador and Marvel complete the look.

Room Design – Bar

Janet Malero, Interior Designer

Mirrored doors criss-crossed in wrought iron and studded with fleurs-de-lis are set into custom cabinetry built by master cabinetmaker, Rob Artist. To achieve the surface’s aged look, Malero commissioned New Orleans artist Elee Jenkins. Standard Glass and Mirror gave the glass its silvered look, and Designer Metal Works crafted the iron-look details. A hand-painted spherical bronze chandelier by Curry and Co. completes the look.

Room Design – Dining

Nancy Robbins, Interior Designer

This dining room is set in a condominium overlooking a picturesque waterfront scene. The owner, a connoisseur and collector of fine wines, required that the design include a wine refrigerator, which was given a custom finish to complement the style and feel of the space. The French farmhouse table establishes a collected look, while the contemporary upholstered chairs add a touch of texture. The contemporary art and art glass along with a whimsical crystal and iron chandelier completes the room’s ambiance. ✦
