Teche Electric: Seeing the Light

Written by: Lauren Noel

For anyone who has ever thought about starting their own business, there is no better role model than Teche Electric Supply. Since opening in 1962, Teche Electric’s commitment to providing its customers with, quite literally, everything they need, has catapulted them to the top of the lighting industry in Louisiana. One need only look at their list of products, services, showrooms, and stores available for proof of this.

Between their 16 locations, including its newly opened Hammond store, Teche Electric carries over 30,000 items for sale, including, but not limited to connecting materials, controls, enclosures, fans, heaters, fuses, generators, and testing equipment, to name a few. Their expansive list has earned them the nickname as the “Electrician’s Superstore.” However, don’t let that fool you: they cater to not only professional electricians, but also regular customers who might want to do a simple tweak on their own.

A quick glance at the list of services that Teche Electric offers for their customers explains their 45-year run of excellence. There is their convenient home delivery and 24-hour emergency services for all of those late-night electric disasters (blown fuses anyone?). They also provide free coffee for those weary shoppers and popcorn for hungry, tag-along kids.

The two places a parent may not want to take the kids, though, are Teche Electric’s awe-inspiring showrooms in Lafayette and Baton Rouge, which are some of the most upscale showrooms in the South. The Lafayette store has what is aptly named the Lafayette Crystal Room, containing over 50 crystal chandeliers on display. For anyone who has ever seen one lit crystal chandelier, imagine how 50 of them look when they are all lit together. It is simply breathtaking. In addition to these two larger stores, Teche Electric also has other showrooms in New Iberia, Opelousas, Lake Charles, Abbeville, and Broussard. Their inventory of dozens of top manufacturers’ full lines include decorative and landscape lighting, gas lanterns, framed prints, mirrors, and gift items.

Teche Electric is the one place a person would want to be if he or she is looking for anything involving electricity—whether to fix a last-minute problem, or to create a new, beautiful look for their home.
