Supreme Ornamental Ironworks

When you think New Orleans architecture, usually some of the first things that come to mind are quaint shotgun homes, beautiful hidden courtyards, and wrought and cast iron everything. Traced back to the 1800s, the trend of using wrought and cast iron is something that continues to this day. Cast and wrought iron balconies line the narrow streets of the French Quarter, and are among the Vieux Carré’s most prominent and widely photographed architectural features. From these famous balconies to gates, front doors, spiral staircases, and street lamps, iron is a staple that won’t disappear anytime soon in New Orleans. In fact, it has filtered out of New Orleans and into the rest of the state of Louisiana.

Supreme Ornamental Ironworks of Labadieville has been integral to the popularization of cast and wrought iron. Serving a large area of southeastern Louisiana, owner Karl Adams Jr. has been working with iron designs for nearly 20 years. Ornamental Ironworks also has four other iron experts on staff to help customers accessorize their home with beautiful iron designs. Each meets with a specific customer and works with them to expound on their dream look. Since they work by appointment only, the team at Ornamental Ironworks offers something not many other companies can: personalized, direct contact that results in completely satisfied customers.

Some of the projects they do regularly include custom-designed balconies, gates and fences, and even some specially created flowerpots. Ornamental Ironworks also designs and builds old-style New Orleans copper awnings. None of their products can be found in warehouses; each customer presents a new project, ensuring that each is unique. From table legs and flowerpot legs to beautiful wall hangings, virtually any idea that employs wrought or cast iron for the home can be made into a reality.

The work that goes into a customer’s project at Supreme Ornamental Ironworks is, well, supreme. Each piece is welded together for strength and durability instead of being spot tacked together. Then it is sandblasted, primed, and painted with an industrial marine coating so it withstands any weather condition. The final touch is the personal installation that Ornamental Ironworks provides, ensuring that each piece is properly fitted to their high standards. In a serious tone, Karl Adams Jr. sums it up simply: “I am very particular about the quality of our products.”

If you love New Orleans style and iron features, Supreme Ornamental Ironworks is the premier place for unique and custom designs. And with the increasing popularity of New Orleans style due to its rebirth, Karl Adams Jr. and his iron men will only get busier. ✦
