Lagniappe Home Accents: One - Stop Shopping

Written by: Marissa Frayer

The phone rings at Lagniappe Home Accents in Mandeville, answered by one of the store’s friendly staff members. On the other end of the line, someone is looking for a piece of ironwork. Promptly and courteously, the staff member replies that Lagniappe does not stock the ironwork and suggests it may be exclusive to the French Quarter. That is just one of the “little something extras” customers receive at Lagniappe: attention and knowledge.

It is no small feat for Lagniappe Home Accents’ staff to know the inventory inside and out. With new shipments arriving daily at the 5,000-square-foot Mandeville location and the 1,600-square-foot Covington location, Lagniappe is a feast for the eyes. Owner Katrina Peters calls it a “three trip store” because even if you make three trips around the store, you still will not see all the home furnishings, accents, and gifts available. Give yourself at least an hour to browse the eclectic selection of furniture, lamps, art, vases, clocks, statues, bookends, soaps, candles, candleholders, mirrors, rugs, and more.

“Eclectic” is not being used lightly: No two things in the store are alike, with something for everyone and every room. There are furniture pieces from coffee tables to bookshelves by makers like Hooker Furniture. There are lamps in various colors, lampshades, and finials by legends like Dale Tiffany. There are tabletop and serving pieces by Belaverra. Candles and diffusers by fixtures like Tyler, Lux, Nouvelle, and Millefiori are available in scents like “pineapple crush” and “dolce vita.” The Mandeville location also carries Canadian artist Sid Dickens’ highly collectible, handcrafted memory tiles. With fleur-de-lis throughout (tastefully executed on throw pillows, towel racks, light switch plates, cutting boards and anything you can think of) there is also something for every Louisianan, or anyone who wants to bring home a piece of Louisiana.

Other “lagniappe” services offered include custom designer services and custom silk arrangements. When Peters is not at any of her two stores, she is bound to be at a customer’s house, helping to place a piece in just the right spot. “It works out well for both of us because they get the piece they like and I get to help decorate their house and turn it into a home,” she says. Peters and her nine-person staff recently finished the interiors of the Resource Bank building in Covington.

The next time you are looking for just the right thing for your home or someone else’s, pay a visit to Lagniappe Home Accents. And remember to allow enough time to make it around the store three times! ✦
