Designed to Suit: Kellerman Kitchen & Bath

It has been 15 years since designer Jack Kellerman and his brother, Kurt Kellerman, first set up shop as premier custom cabinet builders and suppliers in Louisiana, and in that time their business has grown to include a state of the art showroom in Baton Rouge, a comprehensive website for kitchen and bath accessories (CAVEster.com), and a topnotch wood shop featuring a team of professional artisans who perfect the unique, fine-crafted designs for which their business is best known.

“I didn’t intend on opening a cabinet shop, now that I think about it. But as my wife and I were restoring an older home we purchased around 18 some odd years ago, we struggled to find quality, finished cabinets for our kitchen and baths. It was the strangest thing,” recalls Jack Kellerman. “All the cabinets at that time came unfinished.” Experiencing the need firsthand was the catalyst that set Kellerman’s mission in motion. It was time, he decided, that customers have the option to purchase ready-to-install, finished custom cabinets. With a strong background in design from his formative years at LSU, and real world experience under foot, he launched his namesake enterprise, Kellerman Kitchen and Bath.

The steady buzz of woodworkers from the attached workshop fills the space as Kellerman walks through the recently remodeled Baton Rouge showroom, pointing out the various styles, sizes, and types of cabinets that are available. “The industry has changed tremendously. There are more and more options for customers to choose from when selecting cabinets than there were 15 years ago, that is for sure,” notes Kellerman. “You can personalize everything these days, and cabinets are no exception. We’ve worked hard to present all of the options possible plus some.”

Two years ago, Kellerman launched the newest addition to his business, www.CAVEster.com, as a part of his commitment to selection and quality. The nationwide website features over 7,000 products, including decorative plumbing products and home accessories. “It isn’t enough to just build and install cabinets. You still need the sinks, faucets, lights, and hardware.” Kellerman continues, “It was a natural extension of what we do here day in and day out, customizing cabinets and designing personalized kitchens and baths for our clients.” But the decisions don’t stop with the cabinets. “Selecting unique accessories and fixtures is also key, and we could not possibly have presented all of the options that I want our customers to have access to in-house,” he explains.

It is apparent in speaking with Kellerman that the most important aspect of his company, his profession, is the ability to offer his customers exactly what they want, even when they aren’t exactly sure themselves. The complimentary professional design services included at Kellerman Kitchen and Bath help customers translate even the vaguest of ideas—a general feeling they want to evoke in the space, for example—into a reality. And there is truly nothing more custom in service, selection, and style than that. ✦
