Bedroom Galleries from Cordell
Few of us realize that we spend about one third of our lives in our bedrooms. It is what we see the first thing in the morning and last at night. For those two reasons alone it should be the room that best expresses our most intimate and personal preferences. Luxurious or sparse, romantic, cozy, or dramatic are all appropriate bedroom styles so long as the mood is peaceful and comfortable.
A bedroom is more than a place for sleeping. It is a sanctuary from the stresses of everyday life. Bedrooms are regarded as private domains, faithful reflections of their occupants. The whole function of the bedroom has been going through changes. It has become the ultimate retreat, a place where we can not only rest but also multitask.
With an abundance of bedroom furniture on the market, it is important to consider all the elements when designing a new look for a bedroom with new furniture. It requires careful planning and involves many factors, including what tasks other than sleeping will be done in the room, the room color and dimensions, and personal taste. Naturally, comfort is of utmost importance when selecting a mattress. When selecting a bed frame and a bedroom set, you should go for something durable, not just attractive. Give consideration to fine craftsmanship as well, as it will ensure durability and save on repairs.
One place where you can really get great ideas and make purchases that are competitively priced is Bedroom Galleries from Cordell, located at 1860 North Causeway Boulevard in Mandeville. Owned by Brent Cordell, the store has been known for the past decade for its wide selection and personalized customer service, and specializes in bedroom furniture, mattresses, bedding, accents, and accessories. Draperies are also offered, but are not custom made. The furniture manufacturers showcased include American Drew, Kincaid, Broyhill, Klaussner, Riverside, and Vaughan-Bassett. Brand names for mattresses offered include Tempur-Pedic, Sterns and Foster, Sealy, and Serta.
“Most people who come in are looking for bedroom sets,” says Rashanna, who has been an interior designer for decades and works in sales at Bedroom Galleries from Cordell. “I try to gather information as to what it is they are looking for. Some people are concerned with room placement. We have people who come in with sketches and blueprints, and we will assist them and work with them to accessorize the entire room if they want. We offer in-home decorating services. We can help people to make a large space feel more warm and inviting, and to maximize smaller spaces.”
The styles of furniture offered at Bedroom Galleries from Cordell include traditional, transitional, and contemporary (the transitional style reflects a blend of contemporary and traditional, and goes with many different settings). Its sister affiliate, the forty-year-old Cordell Furniture located in Covington, is owned by Brent Cordell’s father, Jim Cordell. “We share warehouse space and delivery personnel with Cordell in Covington, and we do a lot of ongoing customer contact when we special order merchandise,” Rashanna comments. “We order it as soon as someone makes a choice, so we have a continual flow of inventory coming in. We have in-stock items as well as special order items.”
Delivery and set-up are provided, and the drivers are a part of the Cordell enterprise. “They are not contracted on a one-time basis,” Rashanna explains. “When special order merchandise comes in, Fancie Jeanfreau lets customers know that their special order is in and gets it scheduled and running smoothly. She works with the customers from the onset to the follow through of their delivery. Either Fancie or I will call and follow through to see if everything turned out well for the customer. People feel comfortable coming in.”
Various bedroom sets are displayed in the gallery. “We have items set up as a room in groups,” Rashanna says. “We also have a catalogue with several other options of beds that are available in that group. We usually have on display a bed, dresser, mirror, night stand, and chest in a group. We also have bedding such as comforters, throw pillows and pillow shams, and bed skirts,” she says.
“If someone wants to try a color of wood in their home to see if it matches the existing furniture, walls, and flooring in their home, we have a wide variety of wood samples for them to take home. And if we don’t have that particular wood sample, we’ll take a drawer out of a night stand and loan it to them. We help coordinate the bedding and rugs as well so that they end up with groupings that are truly meaningful for them,” she explains. “Our store is very oriented towards personalized service. We feel that when you walk into your bedroom, it should be a joyful experience. It is important to find pieces that you truly love to bring into your home.” ✦
