Having immigrated to the United States from Italy with just pennies in his pocket and his father and brother in tow, Joe Pieri landed first in New York City prior to settling in New Orleans, his self-proclaimed home away from home. Relying on hands-on experience working as a young boy quarrying marble from the majestic hillsides of rural Italy, Pieri quickly excelled as a master of marble, so to speak. “He needed to be creative and work with his hands, so he gravitated towards jobs that allowed him to physically interact with stone,” Chevalier explains. “It was a very natural progression for him, and because of his incredible work ethic, he built a reputation as the go-to guy in the industry,” she remarks. “He’s the guy to call if you want the job done right from the start.”
In 1967 Pieri founded Pieri Tile & Marble, and since then the family-owned and -operated business has steadily evolved and expanded over time to include a showroom with a warehouse and fabrication shop attached. From developing the initial design and selecting the materials to cutting, polishing, and finally installing the stone or tile, Pieri Tile & Marble houses the experts and the equipment all under one roof to make the process more convenient and timely for the customer. In addition to specializing in high-end custom projects such as intricate inlays and micro-mosaics, Pieri Tile & Marble remains very selective about the materials they bring in, taking great care to check the surface of each stone to ensure the quality of the products they stock.
